NSU leaders demand guarantee of Dr KC's life

Kathmandu - Nepal Students Union (NSU) leaders reached the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Maharajgunj this morning, demanding the government save the life of Prof Dr Govinda KC who is on a fast-onto-death for the 11th time, seeking the reforms in medical education with the guarantee of accessible and effective education.

The leaders of NSU, a student wing close to the Nepali Congress, on the 19th day of Dr KC's hunger strike, gathered at the hospital to pile pressure on the government to pay heed to his demands. They chanted slogans that the culture of pushing the people towards the death bed while seeking justice should be brought to an end, the report of Kedarbhakta Mathema Commission be enforced, the health bill be passed without any further delay and citizens' rights to put forth demands peacefully be guaranteed.

NSU 25 central members and unit presidents of Valley-based campuses including Deepak Bhattarai, joint general secretaries Sadhana Ghimire and Lalita Sunar were at the TUTH in support of Dr KC, according to central member Tej Bahadur Baniya.

The group has called on the government to immediately address the demands of agitating orthopaedic surgeon so as to build an atmosphere for him to break the fast.
