Oath of office and secrecy taken by Newly elected Members of House of Representatives

Kathmandu - Newly elected Members of The House of Representatives have taken the oath of office and secrecy. According to Article 88 of the Constitution of Nepal, members of each House of the Federal Parliament must take an oath in accordance with the federal law, before participating in the meeting of the House or any of its committees for the first time.

Before the Speaker is elected, there is a provision for the senior members to administer the oath to the members of the House of Representatives. There is a provision to administer the oath to other members after the President administers the oath to the senior members. President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected senior member of the House of Representatives Pashupati Shamsher Jabara on Wednesday.

In the situation where the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has not been held or both posts are vacant, there is a constitutional provision that the senior member of the House of Representatives shall preside over the meeting of the members present.
