Deuba's overwhelming majority in Parliamentary party
nearly 72 percent of MPs against Gagan
Kathmandu - Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is also the Prime Minister, has received nearly 72 percent of the votes in the Congress parliamentary party election. Deuba got 71.91 percent of the votes while his closest competitor, Chief Minister Gagan Kumar Thapa, got 28.08 percent of the votes in the election.
The result of the vote confirmed that Deuba is in the majority in the party as well as in the parliamentary party. Deuba won the party's 14th convention with a huge majority. In the parliamentary party election held on Tuesday, Deuba got 64 votes, while Thapa got 25 votes out of a total of 89 votes. Along with this, the election committee has declared Deuba the winner.
"According to Article 5 of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party's Constitution(with amendments and modifications, 2074); for the post of leader of the parliamentary party in the election held today, the candidate for the post of leader of the parliamentary party, Honorable Gagan Kumar Thapa, received a total of 25 votes and the Honorable Sher Bahadur Deuba received a total of 64 votes. According to Article 5 (4) of the Constitution of the Parliamentary Party, since Honorable Sher Bahadur Deuba has received the votes of more than 50 percent of the total number of members of the party, it is declared that he has been elected as the leader of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party", it is mentioned in the statement issued by Bhishmaraj Angdembe, the coordinator of the election committee.
Deuba was supported by Ramchandra Poudel and other leaders, as the leader of the parliamentary party, while Thapa was supported by Shekhar Koirala and others.
