CPN(US) decides to ratify MCC with ‘interpretative declaration’

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: The CPN (Unified Socialist), a key partner of the government, has decided to ratify the Millennium Challenge Corporation(MCC).

Earlier, the ruling alliance had reached a consensus to pass the MCC compact agreement with an ‘interpretative declaration’.

A standing committee meeting of the party held earlier on Sunday afternoon took the decision to this effect, according to Ram Kumari Jankri, a party leader. 

With this, both the key coalition partners of the Deuba-led government have now decided to support the government to ratify the $500 million American grant.

The MCC compact agreement is currently tabled in parliament awaiting ratification.

A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is soon to begin and the ratification of the compact is likely.
