Nepal officially began the campaign on January 27, last year after it received one million Indian-made Covishield vaccines under grant assistance. Since then, Nepal has received a total of 42,049,640 doses of vaccines manufactured in different countries.

Of the total shots administered,  54.4 percent of the total population (30 million as stated by the health ministry) of the country have received at least one dose of the vaccine while 46.1 percent of the population have received the complete jabs.

According to the latest updates released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Sunday, 1.6 million people received at least one dose of the vaccines as of Monday afternoon.

Nepal has been administering Chinese-made VeroCell, Japanese-made AstraZeneca, Swedish-made AstraZeneca and US-made Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

While the J & J vaccine needs to be administered a single dose, other vaccines provide complete protection only after two shots.

Meanwhile, as many as 333,835 people have received additional doses of the vaccines since the country began offering booster doses on January 17. Nepal has been giving booster shots to frontline workers and those people have completed six months after getting a second jab.
