JANAKPUR, Jan 17: Province 2 has been named Madhes Province.
The provincial assembly meeting on Monday endorsed the proposal to name Province 2 as Madhes through a two-thirds majority.
The proposal was tabled shortly after the provincial assembly endorsed Janakpur as the permanent capital of the province on Monday itself.
During a provincial assembly vote held on the proposal, as many as 80 votes were cast in favor of the new name as Madhes. A total of 99 lawmakers participated in the voting held after deliberation on the proposal.
According to the constitutional provision, provincial capital and name should be endorsed through the two-thirds majority from the respective provincial assembly.
