Amid sharp spike in COVID-19 cases, ‘smart lockdown’ in Valley (with notice)

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Local administrations in the Kathmandu Valley have imposed some restrictions in public activities amid the rise in new COVID-19 infections.

A joint meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts on Tuesday decided to implement the ‘smart lockdown’ as authorized by the Home Ministry. The ministry on Monday issued a circular in the name of respective district crisis management committees to apply necessary measures without restricting the economic activities and transportation as per the Smart Lockdown Work Procedure.

The new provisions, which will come into force starting from Tuesday midnight, include a ban on crowds of more than 25 people in public places, producing COVID-19 vaccination cards mandatorily while being in public places and receiving public amenities and shutting schools until January 29.
