Repolling for NC Prez: 2,500 votes cast

KATHMANDU: As many as 2,500 have so far been cast during the re-polling being held to elect the president of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC). 

Voting for the run-off is being held at the Exhibition Road-based City Hall.  

Re-polling is being carried out as none of the five candidates secured more than 50 percent of total votes cast in Monday’s voting. 

A total of six polling booths have been arranged for Tuesday’s re-polls.

Top vote securers --- incumbent President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr Shekhar Koirala-- are pitted against each other. While Deuba secured 2,258, Koirala garnered  1,702 votes in the first round. A total of 4,679 votes were cast.

According to the party’s central election committee, Prakash Man Singh secured 371 votes followed by Bimalendra Nidhi who managed to win 250 votes. Kalyan Gurung garnered the lowest of 22 votes. 

Meanwhile, Singh, Nidhi and Gurung, who contested the election in the first round, said that they would extend their support to Deuba.
