Karnali CM Shahi resigns

SURKHET: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has stepped down as the executive chief of the province.

Addressing the people of the province on Monday, Shahi announced his resignation.

CM Shahi’s resignation comes in line with the agreement between the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepali Congress (NC). The two parties had agreed to lead the government in turn.

With this, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, the parliamentary party leader of the NC will take helm of the provincial government.

Following the split of the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP), the Shahi-led government survived with the backing of the NC and floor-cross by four CPN-UML lawmakers during Shahi’s trust motion.
