PM Deuba to visit UK amid growing Judicial deadlock

KATHMANDU, October 28: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur  Deube is scheduled to visit Scotland to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-26) to be held in Glasgow between October 31 and November 12, 2021.

PM Deuba is scheduled to return to Nepal on November 4.

PM Deuba's week-long visit to the United Kingdom is likely to deepen the ongoing deadlock at the Supreme Court (SC) amid growing controversies relating with Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR.

At a time when the Nepal Bar Association and other SC justices are preparing for nationwide protests demanding the resignation of CJ Rana, PM Deuba’s absence is likely to worsen the judicial deadlock.

Meanwhile, CJ Rana has begun hearing in his single bench from Wednesday, refusing to step down even if the SC justices have been boycotting the hearing and any other proceedings in the apex court.

Similarly, the ruling alliance has failed to hold any sort of discussion regarding the case and the political parties are yet to make their positions regarding CJ Rana’s resignation. Leaders like Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, who are the key factors of the coalition government, are currently outside of the Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier in the party’s meeting, PM Deuba maintained that the SC must resolve its issues on its own. He also indicated that the party is not in a mood to impeach CJ Rana.
