Student wing close to CPN-US object to Home Ministry’s attempt to curb protests

KATHMANDU: Stakeholders have objected to warnings issued by the government indicating the recent protests made by various political parties and their sister organizations. 

In a recent statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA)  warned of taking stern action against those burning effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The ministry said that the acts of protest demonstrations against the neighbor’s prime ministers are ‘condemnable’. 

A few days back, students affiliated with a sister organization of the CPN (Unified Socialist) had burned an effigy of Indian PM Modi in a symbolic protest against the Darchula incident where Nepali national Jaya Singh Dhami had gone missing in the Mahakali River after Indian security personnel disconnected the improvised cable bridge (Tuin). 

Meanwhile, Sudesh Parajuli, Chairman of the student union close to NCP (US) objected to the warning issued by the home ministry. 

Parajuli challenged the government to arrest them as they are preparing to tear up the statement released by the ministry and burn it. 

“We strongly object to the statement issued by the ministry. The government doesn’t care about the death of Jaya Singh Dhami and doesn’t witness the Indian chopper hovering in the Nepali sky. However, it sees students burning Modi’s effigy.”
