NC’s Poudel faction ‘determined’ to field common candidate in 14th General Convention

KATHMANDU: The rival faction in the ruling Nepali Congress (NC), close to senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, has ‘determined’ to field a common candidate in the upcoming 14th General Convention of the party.

Organizing a press conference on Thursday, the faction shared that it will field a single candidate for the position of party president.

“Our ideological group, which wants reforms in the party, will field a single candidate in the general convention,” Poudel told the media persons.

“To ensure change and reform in the condition of the country and our party, we should be in the leading position. Therefore, we are determined to stay united.”

Gagan Thapa, a former minister and a key leader of the party was also present during Thursday’s press meet. He had contested for the post of general secretary in the 13th General Convention of the party representing the Krishna Prasad Sitaula faction.

Thapa has recently announced his candidacy for the position of general secretary.

The ruling party is holding its general convention in November, later this year.
