SC seeks written response from govt on treatment cost of former PM Khanal

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the government to furnish a written response on its decision to bear the treatment cost of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal.

A single bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Wednesday and sought the written response within 15 days.

Advocate Bimal Pokhrel had filed a writ petition at SC against the government decision to bear the treatment cost of leader Khanal, arguing that it was against Public Health Act, 2075.

The government led by KP Sharma Oli had decided to bear Rs 3.1 million from the State coffer for the kidney transplant of leader Khanal in a hospital in Delhi, India. Nepali Embassy in Delhi had released the amount via Foreign Ministry to the ailing leader Khanal. He returned home recently after undergoing a successful kidney transplant.
