Deuba, Poudel meeting amid active membership row in NC

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: A meeting between Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel  has been scheduled  amid the active membership row ahead of the 14th General Convention of the party.

Two leaders are scheduled to hold a meeting on Friday afternoon.

Senior leader Poudel has been exerting pressure on the party leadership to  immediately resolve the dispute over the party's active membership and initiate necessary processes so that the party's general convention can be held on time.

As per the decision of a meeting of party leaders held at the residence of leader Prakash Man Singh in Chaksibari on Friday morning, Poudel would meet party President Deuba and demand immediate resolution of the remaining disputes related to the party's active membership, according to Minendra Prasad Rijal, a key Congress leader.

The meeting had decided to pressurize Deuba to start the process of general convention by making public the list of active members as demanded by the party's district presidents.

In order to conclude the general convention of the Nepali Congress in a legal manner on November 25 to 29, the ward convention across the country has to be concluded on September 3. However, the Poudel faction has been pressuring Deuba to resolve the remaining issues of active membershipat the earliest.
