COVID-19: Nepal has 40,500 active cases including 3,075 new cases

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Nepal on Thursday reported 3,075 new cases taking the overall casetally to 820,605 since the first was detected on January 23, 2020. 

Officials said that the 2,321 cases were detected through the RT-PCR tests while 754 others tested positive during antigen tests. A total of 16,438 tests were carried out across the country, meaning Thursday’s positive rate stood at 18.7 percent.

In its regular media release, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) shared that 93.1 percent COVID-19 patients  --- 691,299--- have so far recovered from the disease. Of the total infections confirmed, 10,429 people, however, succumbed to the fatal disease. It accounts for 1.5 percent of the total cases. 

As of Thursday afternoon (4:45PM), there are 40,500 active cases of the disease. Of them, 739 are being treated at ICUs while 168 are undergoing treatment on ventilators.
