Writ petitions filed against party-split ordinance

KATHMANDU, August 19: Writ petitions have been filed against the issuance of the party-split ordinance, at the Supreme Court (SC).

Five writ petitions so far  have been filed at the SC against the ordinance including one by advocate Prabesh KC.

The government introduced the party-split ordinance on Tuesday after President Bidya Devi Bhandari prorogued the parliament session on Monday. The ordinance was issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday.

Following the issuance of the ordinance, sp;inter factions of CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) registered two separate political parties --- CPN-UML (Samajbadi) and JSP (Democratic), on Wednesday itself.
