Nepal, Thakur likely to be barred from using UML and JSP in name of their new parties

KATHMANDU, August 19: Two new political parties were registered at the Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday.

Splinter factions of CPN-UML and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) registered two separate political parties on the same day.

Nepal named his new party as CPN-UML (Samajbadi) and Thakur named his party People Socialist Party, Nepal (Democratic). However, the poll body is likely to restrict Nepal and Thakur from using UML and JSP in the names of their parties, according to an EC source.

“The EC has already been informed by the verdict passed by the apex court earlier on March 23 regarding the name of the political parties,” said an official at the commission, adding that Nepal and Thakur cannot use UML and JSP adding some words behind it.
