Mahanta Thakur visits PM Deuba demanding ordinance  to split party

KATHMANDU, August 17: Leader of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Mahanta Thakur has visited Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar demanding an ordinance to split the party.

Thakur was accompanied by four other leaders considered close to him including Sharat Singh Bhandari.During the meeting, Thakur urged PM Deuba to endorse the ordinance as soon as possible.

“Leaders including Thakurcalled on PM Deuba at Baluwatar. They asked him [Deuba] to help them as they were denied legitimacy by the Election Commission (EC),” a source close to the PM Deuba told Ratopati.

There are speculations that the government is very likely to endorse an ordinance that allows a political party to get split as the government prorogued parliament session effective from Monday midnight.

Meanwhile, the Upendra Yadav-led faction of the party expressed its serious concern and said that such an ordinance will have a negative impact on the  party.A central committee meeting  of the party to be held later this afternoon is likely to discuss on this matter, said a leader of the party.
