Govt projects 193,000 new COVID-19 cases in five months

KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Government has said that as many as 13.5 percent of the total population of the country have so far gone through testing for COVID-19 disease. Of the total population, 2.6 percent people  have tested positive for the deadly disease.  

According to Dr Guna Raj Lohani, Chief at the Policy Planning and Monitoring Division of the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), the number of infections in the country has reached 769,922. 

Nepal had reported the first case on January 23, 2020. 

As many as 9,957 people, however, have succumbed to the disease since May 16 last year.

According to the data released by the ministry, a total of 4.2 million people received the first dose of vaccine against the disease while 2 million people got both jabs. 

Meanwhile, the government has also projected that at least 193,856 more people will get infected with the disease in the next five months.
