An MP of Oli faction visits Deuba, lobbying for ministerial position

KATHMANDU, July 15: With CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s ouster from power, lawmakers close to his faction started changing their camps.

In an instance, a former Cabinet colleague of KP Oli, on Thursday, called on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s Budhanilkantha-based private residence . It has been revealed the ‘former minister’ asked PM Deuba to induct him as the minister in the new four-member Cabinet which is due to be expanded.

The lawmaker ‘assured’ Deuba of crossing the floor when the latter seeks a trust vote from the House nearly after a month as per Article 76 (6) of the constitution.

"You have to take a vote of confidence. At that time, I will persuade eight lawmakers from the Oli faction to cross the floor and cast their votes. In return, I expect an opportunity to join the government and ‘serve the people’,” sources close to Budhanilkantha revealed, quoting him [lawmaker]. The source, however, asked Ratopati not to disclose the name.
