Public transportation fares hiked by 28 percent

KATHMANDU, July 14: Long-distance public transport fares have been increased by a maximum of 28 percent. 

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) hiked the fares of public transport as well as freight vehicles with effect from July 13.

Issuing a public statement on Wednesday, the department shared that the fares of long-haul public transport vehicles and freight vehicles were adjusted.

According to the department, the fare of passenger vehicles has been increased by 28 percent. While the fare of freight vehicles [those operated in the hilly region] has been increased by 20 percent, the fare of freight vehicles [run long the Terai roads] has been hiked by 26 percent.

In the statement, the department sait the fare was adjusted in view of the hike in price of fuel, tyre lubricant and spare parts.
