177 more COVID-19 die on Friday as parties wrestle for premiership

Nepal confirms 8,607 new cases, 7890 recoveries

KATHMANDU, May 21: As the political parties were engaged in a game of thrones since early in the morning on Friday, 177 more people died of COVID-19 infection. Total fatality tally in the country hit  6,024. While COVID-19 patients were struggling for life, political parties were busy staking claim for the formation of a new government as called upon by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. 

Ruling and opposition parties were making their desperate efforts to put together a majority of votes in parliament at a time patients and their relatives found it hard to find hospital beds and lifesaving oxygen. 

With 8,607 new cases on Friday, the country’s total caseload has inched closer to half a million. The Health Ministry reported a total of  497,052 as of Friday afternoon. 

Meanwhile, 7,890 patients won their battle against coronavirus, the ministry said.
