8,203 new infections, 196 fatalities added

KATHMANDU, May 18: A total of 6,891 people recovered from COVID-19 on Tuesday taking the country’s recovery tally to 352,414 and rate to 74.6 percent. 

Officials in the health ministry confirmed that 8,203 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the past 24 hours in the country. Those cases were detected through the 20,979 tests including 20,286 RT-PCR tests and 693 antigen tests carried out at various laboratories around the country. This has taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country so far to 472,354. Of the infected, 61.72 percent are males and 38.28 percent are females.

At least 196 deaths were reported on Tuesday. With this, the number of people dying of coronavirus has reached 5,411. 

The total active cases in the country are 114,529 with 752 people in quarantine. Of them, 107,082 people are in home-based isolation while 7,447 are undergoing treatment at institutional isolation centers. Furthermore, 1,590 patients are being treated at ICUs while 390 infected are on ventilator support.
