Nepal has 24.4 percent active corona cases, second highest in South Asia

 KATHMANDU, May 18:  Of the total 464,218 corona infections confirmed as of Monday afternoon, 113,480 patients are yet to recover from the deadlier strain of the virus. This accounts for 24.4 percent of the overall casetally. 

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Nepal has the second highest percent of active cases in South Asia preceded by the Maldives where 33.4 percent patients are undergoing treatment for the disease. Similarly, Sri Lanka has 19.2 percent of active cases while India has 15.4 percent. Bangladesh, however, has reported the least percent of active cases --- 6 percent. 

Highest death rate in Afghanistan 

Of the eight countries of the SAARC, Afghanistan witnessed deaths of 4.3 percent of total infected patients followed by Pakistan (2.2) and Bangladesh (1.6).  Nepal’s southern neighbor reported a fatality rate of 1.1 percent while Nepal 1 percent. The least mortality rate (0.1%) was reported in Bhutan. 

Bangladesh sees highest recovery rate, the Maldives lowest 

The data shows that the highest recovery rate was reported from Bangladesh, where 92.4 percent patients won their battle against the disease. Pakistan (89.4), Bhutan (88.8) and Afghanistan (86.2) reported higher recovery rates than that of India (83.5), Sri Lanka (80.1) and Nepal (74.6).
