Janata Samajbadi Party on verge of split triggered by dispute in Lumbini Province

KATHMANDU, April 30: 

Triggered by a dispute floated in Lumbini Province, the Janta Samjbadi Party (JSP) is on the verge of vertical split. 

The split in the party is apparent as the two factions -- one close to leader Updendra Yadav and the other to Mahantha Thakur-- sent two separate letters to the speaker of Lumbini Province Assembly. 

The faction led by Updendra Yadav took action against four province assembly members of the party. A letter was also sent to the secretariat of the province’s assembly. Following the letter, the secretariat published a notice on Thursday that the four lawmakers were relieved of their positions. 

Thakur, the Chiarman of the party, however sent a separate letter to the speaker and asked the latter not to take any action against those lawmakers. In the letter, he argued that the action taken against them was illegitimate. 

Lawmakers Santosh Kumar Pandey, Bijaya Bahadur Yadav, Suman Sharma Rayamajhi and Kalpana Pandey joined the Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel-led Cabinet without the party's decision.  They had, however, signed in the no-confidence motion registered against CM Pokharel.
