Election Commission directs to set up DCC offices by Sept 16

Kathmandu - The Election Commission has directed the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to set up the offices of the District Coordination Committee (DCC) in Rukum (East), Rukum (West), Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) and Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West) within September 16.

A meeting of the commission on Saturday also decided to write to the Ministry, asking it to assign Local Development Officers in these districts and inform it about the same.

The Commission took this decision as the Chief Election Officer cannot conduct the election until the number of members on the DCC was fixed.

The election of the DCC is yet to be held in Rukum and Nawalparasi districts as the rural municipalities and municipalities in these two districts fall in two separate provinces after the state restructuring.

The district assembly has to decide the number of members in the DCC and for this purpose the Election Commission has directed the Ministry to set up the DCC offices and assign the Local Development Officers in these four districts.

The election of the DCC has already taken place in other districts except Nawalparasi, Rukum and Chitwan following the first and second phase local level elections.
