NC wins mayoral, deputy mayoral posts in Haleshi Tuwachung Municipality

 

Khotang - Nepali Congress (NC) candidates have registered a win for the post of mayor and deputy mayor in Haleshi Tuwachung Municipality of Khotang district in the second round of local level election held on June 28. 


Iwan Rai secured 4,397 votes to be elected to the post of mayor while Bimala Rai got 4,397 votes securing the post of deputy mayor. 


Rai defeated his closest contender Khadendra Rai of CPN-UML who received 3,997 votes while Rai's closest rival Manisha Rai of CPN-UML secured 3,922 votes. 


Similarly, NC panel has won seats in ward no 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11 of the same municipality followed by UML panel emerging victorious in ward no 2 and 5. 


Meanwhile, CPN-UML candidate Pradeep Rai was elected to the post of Chair of Khotang rural municipality in Khotang district. 


Rai secured 3,127 votes against 2,682 of his closest contender CPN-Maoist Centre's Rajan Dhakal. 


Likewise, UML's Kabita Rai has been elected the deputy mayor of the same rural municipality, obtaining 3,020 votes. Her arch-rival Sushila Bantawa of CPN-MC gained 2,309 votes. 


CPN-UML registered its win for ward Chair for ward no 1, 2, 4, 6, and 9 of the same rural municipality while CPN-MC won seats for ward 2 and NC for ward no 8.
