IN PICS: Chaos at the dumping site of capital

KATHMANDU, June 7: Sisdole landfill and Banchare Danda are dumping sites for solid waste of Kathmandu Valley, where lies the federal capital of the country. 

As the government failed to address the demands and problems of the local of the Sisdole and Banchare Danda, the local has been staging protests and obstructing waste collection in the capital. Trash collection has recently resumed on Tuesday after a hiatus of over a month.

An agreement was reached between the authorities concerned and the locals of Sisdole and Banchare Danda on Monday regarding the waste management of the Kathmandu Valley.

The police and the local people clashed on Tuesday as the government resumed dumping waste in the area following the agreement, according to local people. Police have also apprehended some local people and the collection and dumping of the trash has resumed as of now.
