KATHMANDU, April 14: At the time when the local level election is scheduled for May 10, ballot papers are being printed and candidates are being nominated, there is a buzz in a market that the election may get postponed owing to economic crisis and various writ petitions filed in the Supreme Court demanding the suspension of the election.

To make things clear, Ratopati recently talked with the Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya.

Could the local polls be deferred?

People have been making various guesses about local level elections since the very beginning. As per the prevailing law and provisions in the Constitution, there is no possibility of postponing the local level elections. The poll body and the government are confident that the polls will be held on scheduled time. I want to urge one and all not to fall in this kind of delusion. 

Besides, we have already spent a huge amount to conduct the election on time.
