Construction entrepreneurs preparing to file case against EC’s decision to bar contractors from filing candidacy in local polls

KATHMANDU, March 31: Construction entrepreneurs have opposed the decision of the Election Commission (EC) to bar contractors from filing their candidacy in the upcoming local level polls.

“The Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN) is preparing to file a case against the decision that has barred construction entrepreneurs from filing their candidacy in the local level polls scheduled for May 13,” Rabi Singh, President of the association told Ratopati.

The association has also claimed that the poll body’s decision is against the Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal.

A meeting of the EC held on Wednesday took a decision to bar the contractors from filing their candidacy in the upcoming local level polls.

According to a study, in the local level election 2074 BS, as many as 169 construction entrepreneurs were elected in various posts including mayor, deputy mayor and chairman.
