Flights to Lukla disrupted as visibility in capital plunges to 2,200 meters

KATHMANDU, March 30: Regular flights to Lukla Airport, popular as gateway to Mt Everest, have been obstructed following change in weather conditions.

As visibility in the capital has plunged, the flights to Lukla have been postponed, according toTeknath Niraula, spokesperson for the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

As of Wednesday morning, visibility in the TIA was recorded at 2,200 meters. 

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy in Province 1, Madesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province and mainly fair in the rest of the country. Brief rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at some places in Province 1, Madesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province.
