Nepal Police granted permission to recruit 100,000 temporary police for local polls

Salary of temporary police to be higher than Rs 30,000

KATHMANDU, March 14: The Ministry of Finance has granted permission to the Nepal Police to recruit 100,000 temporary police for maintaining security during the upcoming local level polls.

Earlier, the Nepal Police had recommended recruitment of as many as 118,000 temporary police. However, the Finance Ministry has maintained that it can manage a budget for only 100,000 temporary police.

The Nepal Police will recruit police personnel temporarily for 40 days for maintaining security during the local level elections scheduled for May 13.

According to SSP Bishnu Kumar KC, spokesperson of the Nepal Police, preparations are underway to announce vacancies in the first week of Chaitra (mid-March).

The salary of these temporary police officers will be Rs 30,280. Besides, they will also be provided Rs 7,000 as a ration along with uniforms worth Rs 6,000 and travel allowance of Rs 1,000.

Altogether, each temporary police officer will be provided with Rs 44,480 by the state.
