Impeachment recommendation committee to be formed for moving impeachment against CJ Rana

KATHMANDU, March 6: The government is preparing to move the impeachment motion registered against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana.

A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee held ahead of the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) decided to form an impeachment recommendation committee and ask names of members from among the political parties.

Meanwhile, the political parties have begun recommending names of their lawmakers for the committee.

However, the main opposition party CPN-UML, which has been obstructing the HoR meetings for the past six months, boycotted the meeting.

Article 101 (2) of the Constitution states that there shall be an impeachment recommendation committee in the House of Representatives for the purpose of making recommendation after inquiring into whether there exist the ground and reason for moving a motion of impeachment against any person.

An impeachment motion was registered at the parliament secretariat against the chief justice Rana earlier on February 13.

A meeting of the HoR is currently under way at the federal parliament building amid UML’s obstruction.
