Police seize Uranium twice in past one year

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The police on February 14 seized 2.8 kilograms (KG) of Uranium for the parking area of Boudha-based Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The police have arrested eight individuals in charge of trading Uranium. Upendra Kumar Mishra, 63, is an Indian national among the arrested.

 It has been learnt through a police investigation that the Uranium was brought to Nepal from Gaya, India by Mishra. During his stay in Nepal, Mishra had contacted Nawaraj Mahat, 60, a Nepali Congress leader and six others. 

The traders were making a deal to sell the Uranium for Rs 350,000,000 per kg. 

The arrestees have been identified as Nawaraj Mahat of Lalitpur, Gopilal Das of Siraha, Ram Krishna Lamichhane and Bupendra Khadka of Sindhupalchowk, Jiwacha Narayan Yadav of Siraha and Surendra Prasad Chaudary and Raju Thakur of Mahottari districts.

Further investigation into the case is underway
