Anti-MCC protests to be continued on Friday
KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The sister organization of the CPN (Maoist Center), key coalition partner of the government, Young Communist League Nepal (YCL) and All Nepal National Free Students' Union (Revolutionary) is scheduled to stage a protest against the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the capital on Friday.
The protest will kick off at 12 noon at New Baneshwar in Kathmandu.
Series of protests have erupted in the capital following the government’s decision to table the MCC in parliament for ratification.
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) want the MCC to be ratified at the earliest but the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) are opposing the $500 million American grant.
So far, the main opposition party, CPN-UML has not maintained any position regarding the compact.
