Terai population soared by 16.06 pc in fifty years

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Of the three geographical regions of Nepal, terai in the southern belt has reported a sharp increase in the population over the past few decades, reveals the statistics. 

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), southern plains witnessed a surge of 16.06 percent population in the past fifty years. 

Preliminary data released by the bureau last week reveals that the terai region hosts as many as 15,665,828 people. 

There were 37.6 percent people of the total population in 1971 while it jumped to 53.66 percent by 2021.
