CENSUS 2021: Know the facts

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Central Bureau of Statistics (CB) shared that the population of the country has increased by 2.7 million in the past ten years. 

Nepal had a total population of 26,494,504  during the census carried out in 2011.

Here are the major facts:

Total population: 29,192,480

Growth rate: 0.93 percent

Male population: 14,219,311 (48.96 percent) 

Female population: 14,901,169 (51.04 percent)

Urban population: 66.08 percent

Rural Population: 33.92 percent

Number of family: 6,761,059

House number: 5,643,945

Number of Nepali nationals abroad: 2,169,478

Population density: 198 per square kilometer

Demographic distribution in Province

Province 1: 17.03 percent

Madhesh Province: 20.99 percent

Bagmati Province: 20.84 percent

Gandaki Province: 8.49 percent

Lumbini Province: 17.55 percent

Karnali Province: 5.81 percent

Sudur Paschim Province: 9.29 percent

Demographic distribution on the basis of geographical region:

Himalayan Region: 6.09 percent

Hilly Region: 40.25 percent

Terai Region: 53.66 percent
