PHOTOS: ‘Whistle Protest’ of Community Forest Users Group

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: The Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), a formal network of Forest User Groups (FUGs), staged a ‘whistle protest’ at Babarmahal in Kathmandu against the draft of Forest Regulations 2078, Province Forest Act and expansion of conserved forest area and other restrictions imposed by the government.

According to the Chairman of the Federation, Bharati Phatak, the government has prepared a draft of Forest Regulations 2078 for the implementation of the Forest Act 2076 excluding the agreements reached between the government and the Community Forest Users Groups and other stakeholders. “The protest will continue for the whole month of Magh ( Mid-February),” Phatak added.
