Schools in Banke shut as mercury dips

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Teaching and learning activities have been closed down in the schools of Banke after the temperature went down.

Schools have been shut after students got illness due to excessive cold. Banke's Khajura rural municipality and Janaki rural municipality decided to close down schools for three days in keeping with a sharp decline in the temperature of late.

Chief of Education Development and Coordination Unit, Ram Suresh Yadav shared that Nepalgunj sub-metropolis has also granted vacation to the students of primary level to avoid the chilling cold.

Though community schools have been shut due to the cold, private schools are still running their curricular activities, as usual, he informed.

The immoderate cold has increased in Banke since last week. The schools have been closed taking into consideration the health sensitivities of children in the most difficult days of winter, Yadav said.

Local-level governments have set their own modality for school shutdown. Early child development classes and the classes from grades 1-5 have been closed for three days in Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, shared Spokesperson Pramod Rijal.
