Four die of suffocation in a govt medical store in Banke

KATHMANDU, December 30: Four people died due to suffocation in a government medical store in Banke district following dropping temperatures triggered by rain and snowfall in the majority of the country.

According to the police, Dhan Prasad Bhattarai, 24, who was working at the Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-10, as an office helper along with three others were found dead this morning.

Altogether seven members of Bhattarai’s family were found sleeping together in a room. Of them four have died and three others were recovered in an unconscious state, according to the district police office, Banke. “They are currently undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital.”

“It has been learnt that they had burnt coal to stay warm before sleeping which might be the cause of deaths,” said SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari.
