SC’s mandamus: 33 percent seats for women in working committee of political party mandatory

KATHMANDU, December 19: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a mandamus to the Election Commission to  make it mandatory for all the political parties to include 33 percent female in working committees of all levels for registrations.

With this, the political parties are now required to make a reservation of 33 percent of total seats in the working committee of all levels for women.

A joint bench of Justices Deepkumar Karki and Manojkumar Sharma issued a mandamus as per the Constitution and the Political Party Act in order to ensure women participation in the politics.
