Advocates stage protest at SC demanding resignation of CJ Rana
KATHMANDU, October 31: Advocates staged a protest at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the resignation of chief justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR on Sunday.
The protest was led by the Nepal Bar Association.
The association has also decided to stage nationwide protests if CJ Rana refuses to step down.
CJ Rana has been accused of stalking his claim on Cabinet and defaming the Judiciary. However, CJ Rana has maintained that he won’t resign from his post.
The country is facing a judicial deadlock as the Nepal Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association have decided to boycott all kinds of proceedings unless CJ Rana steps down.
At the time when the Judiciary is heated up with controversies, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is currently in the United Kingdom leading a 22 member Nepali delegation to participate in COP26. The government also prorogued the House Session on Friday. Due to this, the judicial deadlock is likely to be extended and the controversies in the apex court are unlikely to resolve any time soon.
