UPDATE: Death toll in recent floods, landslides climbs to 92, 42 still missing
KATHMANDU, October 21: Number of people dying due to floods and landslides triggered by unseasonal and incessant rainfall in the last few days has climbed to 92 as of Thursday. As many as 42 people are still missing, According to the Nepal Police Headquarters.
As many as 53 people have died in floods and landslides in Province 1 alone and 30 in Sudurpaschim Province, according to spokesperson for Nepal Police, SSP Basanta Kuwar.
Ratna Sahi, 28, was swept away by a river while crossing it at Hema Rural Municipality-6 of Humla district on Wednesday. Likewise, the dead body of Ishan Bujel, 36, was recovered from a sewer in Biratnagar Metropolitancity-12. Also, the dead body of Jhagendra Rai, 45, was recovered in Khaire Khola of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City.
According to the Police Headquarters seven people in Karnali Province and one each in Bagmati and Lumbini Province succumbed to floods and landslides .
