CIAA files corruption case against three including Chudamani Sharma, seeks Rs 1.003 bln as recovery

KATHMANDU, June 23: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption charge against three including the former director general (DG) of Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

The antigraft body, on Wednesday, registered the case at the Special Court against Sharma, Lumba Dhowj Mahat, then chairman of Tax Clearance Commission and Umesh Prasad Dhakal, the member of the commission.  

The commission, in the charge sheet, claimed that the officials had given tax rebate amounting Rs 1,003,320,385 breaching their jurisdiction.

In the charge sheet, the anti-corruption has sought a recovery amount of Rs 1.003 billion and a jail term in accordance with Prevention of Corruption Act -2002.
