2 policemen killed in mine attack in Myanmar's western state

YANGON–Two policemen have been killed in a mine attack launched by insurgent, Arakan Army (AA), in Ponnagyun township, Rakhine state, according to the Myanmar Police Force on Friday. 


The AA insurgents attacked with land mines on four vehicles of the police force which was en-route from Thandwe to Sittway on Wednesday evening. 


The police vehicles were shot by the insurgents near mile-post 165 on Yangon-Sittway road between Pannila and Kyangin villages in the township. 


The police force charged the AA insurgent group with committing destructive acts attacking vehicles not related with any operation on the public road, warning of action to be taken against the AA in accordance with law. 


Meanwhile, the Myanmar armed forces overran a training camp site of AA in Rakhine state on Feb. 20 following several engagements with them. 


During the engagements, the government forces suffered some casualties, while four bodies of AA, some assorted arms and several rounds of ammunition were seized. 


The military vowed to continue security operations to ensure rule of law and regional stability in the state.
