Bright Market to employ visually impaired citizens

Pokhara - The Ujyaalo Academy Nepal on Thursday set up a Bright Market at the Siddhartha Mini Market at Chipledhunga of Pokhara to provide employment for the visually impaired and physically disabled citizens.

The market was established with an aim to make visually impaired persons self – dependent through entrepreneurship and commercial ventures and provide them an opportunity for self – employment, Academy's Publicity Coordinator, Sirkant Sapkota said.

The organization has also taken an aim of proving that the visually impaired can also become citizens by breaking away with the stereotype and use their knowledge and skills with support and trust from the family and the society.

In the first phase, 15 visually impaired persons and one with physical disability will be employed at a restaurant, grocery store, cosmetics store, fruit and vegetable shop and boutique. The Academy plans to employ 21 visually impaired persons by taking on lease three shutters.
