Constitution embodies everyone's sentiments: NC president Deuba

Biratnagar –Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has asserted that the new constitution reflected the sentiments of all Nepali.

At a meeting of the political proposal draft committee held here to present at the NC's Mahasamiti later, leader Deuba opined that the constitutional republican system in the country could be further strengthened through the new statute.

Declaring that no fractional politics would prevail in NC any longer, Deuba underscored the need for discipline among the cadres and leaders alike in the party to breathe a new life into the party and make it more dynamic.

He claimed that the inability of the incumbent government to arrest the culprit of the Nirmala Panta Rape-and-Murder case had caused a grave shame on it and argued that the government should not interfere in the free judiciary organs and the security agencies.

Urging the cadres and the office bearers of the party to move ahead mending the mistakes in the party, the Party President assured that the NC leadership would not do anything that would put a shame on the party.

Speaking at the meeting, NC central committee member Dr Shekhar Koirala stated that there was no alternative to the party statute amendment to keep up with the changing times.

Other central committee members Dr Gyanendra Karki and Dila Shangraula univocally spoke of the need for the NC to increase its role back to its track.

The meeting was attended by the NC Province No 1 President and representatives of the Mahasamiti and National Convention who furnished suggestions on the ways and means to revamp the party and determine its economic and political strategies among others.

No dispute with Koirala family: Deuba
Meanwhile, the NC president has said he has no dispute with the Koirala family.
He said this while speaking in the press conference organized by Nepal Press Union Morang in Biratnagar earlier today.

The party president expressed the belief that the unity among the three leaders of the Koirala family would help make the party more organized, arguing it would contribute to expand the party’s organization base in the village, town and district level as well.

Deuba added that the Nepali Congress was playing the role of a responsible opposition, saying it would extend cooperation to the government for the political stability and prosperity of the country.

He also said that the party’s Mahasamiti meeting would be held on the stipulated date, which would resolve the dispute seen within the party.
