Taliban key commander among 12 killed in N. Afghanistan

MAIMANA, Afghanistan – A Taliban key commander Mullah Wais is among 12 militants killed and their attack to overrun a district in the northern Faryab province has been repulsed on Monday, an army spokesman Mohammad Hanif Rezai said. 


"Hundreds of Taliban militants launched massive offensive to overrun Ghormach district today morning but the security forces retaliated and forcing militants to flee after leaving 12 bodies behind including their key commander Mullah Wais," Rezai told Xinhua. 


The official also asserted that 19 more militants sustained injuries in the fighting lasted for a few hours. 
Rezai said that only three police personnel had been injured in the firefight. 


Taliban militants are yet to make comment on the situation in the restive Ghormach district of the troubled Faryab province. Enditem
