16 villages in Bajura at high risk of landslide

Bajura - As many as 44 human settlements across 16 villages in Bajura district are at high risk of landslide that could trigger anytime due to the downpour in various places in the district, according to the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, Bajura. 

Locals from Brahma Tola, Chhatara, Dugukhati, Baandhu among others have been living in fear of the disaster for years in lack of options for relocation to safer places. 

One among them is Mandhire Rawat of Gumla Gaun of Aatichaur rural municipality. The human settlement he dwells in has already been hit by landslide in the past for which monsoon comes with adversity every year. 

"We cannot sleep free at night due to fear of being buried in the landslide or being swept way," shared Rawat. 

Chief District Officer in Bajura, Khagendra Bahadur Malla said that that adequate preparedness has been maintained against the potential threat of flood and landslide in the disaster-prone areas. 

According to him, action plan for preparedness against natural calamities has been devised and further relief and rescue works will be followed accordingly. The Committee has urged the locals to remain highly alert. 

Landslide alone has claimed more than 31 lives in a decade, according to Committee.
