Private sector will operate Gautam Buddha Airport: Minister Adhikari

Lumbini – Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rabindra Prasad Adhikari, has said that the private sector would bring the Gautam Buddha International Airport into operation after the completion of its construction task. 


Talking to media persons after carrying out monitoring of the under construction airport, Minister Adhikari said, "It cannot be made competitive if the airport was not handed over to private sector for operation of the airport."
He further said that he has already directed the bodies concerned to forward the task in order to bring the airport into operation from next year and has been carrying out inspection of the under construction airport in the gap of 15 days. 


Minister Adhikari said, "Gautam Buddha International airport will be an alternative to Tribhuvan International Airport." 


Saying the government would make arrangement of equipment if it is required to expedite construction task of the airport, he expressed the view that construction task of the airport has been moving ahead in satisfactory manner. 


On the occasion, Project Chief En Om Sharma said that out of 70 per cent physical infrastructure of the airport, 40 per cent has already been completed. 


According to the Project, works are underway taking 2019 as the operation year.
